College Credit Classes

We have intentionally designed our academic program to build students’ skills and knowledge and to transition students into the collegiate environment.  One of the distinctive aspects of our academic program is our opportunities for students to earn college credit while in high school.

SOUTHWESTERN ILLINOIS COLLEGE

Althoff Catholic partners with Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) to bring college credit courses to students while still in high school through the Belleville CEO Program. Students can elect to receive four college dual credits through Southwestern Illinois College.

  • 3 cr. hrs. MGMT 201 – Entrepreneur Basics
  • 1 cr. hr. MGMT 203 – Business Plan course
ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) COURSES

Advanced Placement (AP) courses allow students to earn college credit while still in high school. Students may choose to pay for and take the end-of-course AP exam for any subject offered on the AP College Board website: www.collegeboard.com/ap. High exam scores may enable students to gain admission, credit, and placement into advanced courses once in college. Minimum required exam scores vary by college/university and subject. Specific requirements for colleges and universities can be found on the College Board website. The AP exam is given to students each spring on an assigned date chosen by College Board. Even if Althoff Catholic does not offer a particular AP course, students still have the option to take the AP exam. Althoff offers courses for the following:

  • AP English Language & Composition
  • AP English Literature & Composition
  • AP European History
1818 ADVANCED COLLEGE CREDIT

Althoff Catholic partners with Saint Louis University (SLU) to bring college credit courses to students while still in high school through the Advanced College Credit (1818) program. The 1818 courses are challenging, but carry extra GPA weight just like an honors course. Students will receive college credit if (1) they receive a grade of a “C” or higher in the course, (2) they have a 3.0 unweighted cumulative grade point average, and (3) they pay an additional fee directly to Saint Louis University. If the student accomplishes these three items they will receive a transcript from Saint Louis University which will reflect the grade earned in the course at Althoff Catholic.

Our course offerings vary from semester to the next, but below is a list of courses that we have offered in the past. Current 2024-25 school year offerings are in bold.
